A carpet, knotted in woollen pile and depicting a formal garden with a principal canal in cruciform configuration, bordered by cypress trees alternating with foliate shrubs on which perch affronted birds. In a square-shaped basin are four peacocks, at the point of intersection. The surfaces outlined by the main canal, each depict a further grid of smaller canals enclosing parterres planted with trees and shrubs. The axial pools or watercourses defining the formal Persian garden are known as a "chahar bagh" literally meaning "four-fold garden"
