The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Ely was begun in 1083 by Simeon, a Kinsman of William the Conqueror. It was virtually completed in its present form by 1350. This photograph of gargoyles beneath scaffolding was taken during the cathedral's 'Great Restoration', which made repairs to stonework, timber, glass and lead.
