Gary Shiels

Gary Shiels was president 1986 to 1997. He became a life member 1985.

Dr Gary A. Shiels has been a member and competitor for the North Bondi SLSC for 55 years. He has held the position of Captain (1975-1977), President (1979-1986), Secretary (1992-1993) and Public Officer (1994-2006), and was a member of the Executive for over 20 years. He was recognised for his contribution to the Club with a Life Membership Award in 1985.

Gary was President when females were formally accepted as lifesavers and was Race Director for the first surf ironman and the first two ocean swims, which were all held at North Bondi. These events have continued to raise funds for the Club over a 40 year period. His qualifications and experience as an Urban Designer and Planner have assisted the Club in numerous projects and his company remains as a very generous sponsor.
