The gaur (Bos gaurus) is the largest known species of bovine native to South and Southeast Asia. Wild gaur are known to move around in herds led by a matriarch. The species prefer evergreen or semi-evergreen and moist deciduous forests where there is an abundance of forage. Classified as Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List, gaurs can be spotted in ASEAN Heritage Parks such as Khao Yai National Park, Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex, and Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary-Nam Nao National Park.
