Leopoldstadt Temple was officially inaugurated six years after the founding of the community in 1852. With its magnificent façade, seating for 2,240 people and standing room for a further 1,500, it reflected the increased self-awareness of the rapidly growing community. The commemorative picture shown here was created to mark the opening of the synagogue in 1858. The façade can be seen in the bottom center.
