On the eve of Christmas 1911, he moved with his entire family to his new house-studio on the Paseo del Obelisco in Madrid (the present-day Sorolla Museum) where he painted the first large studio for his Vision of Spain, Grandmother and Granddaughter of the Ansó Valley. The house was a personal project for Sorolla in which he was directly involved, commissioning the architect Enrique María de Repullés y Vargas (1845-1922) to design it. One of his main aspirations was to unite the working area with the living area so that he could be close to his family at all times, and also to have a garden for both environmental and aesthetic reasons.
