Paris, France

This bronze Ottoman cannon was created in 1581 in Algiers by founder Ca'fer el-Mu'allim.
From the metal strip of the breech, later inscribed with the weight of the piece, to the muzzle, the tube is dotted with 19 circles around 18 friezes decorated with foliage leaves, vine stalks with bunches of grapes, fleurs-de-lis, alongside three cartridges with Arabic inscriptions. These translate as, "Under the powerful reign of the Sultan, son of the sultan, Sultan Selim Han, may God protect his power. "; "Made by order of the powerful Emir Djajezuhlah pacha. May God protect him. Beginning of the month of Ramadan 985," "Created by Djafer, instructor in Algiers. "
