This is definitely a marine snail to avoid if you come across a live one. The Geography Cone Snail (Conus geographus) grows up to 15 cm long and has a store of toxins which it delivers to small fish via a tiny hypodermic dart. The fish are immediately stunned and the cone snail can then eat them whole. Unfortunately this nerve toxin is also highly potent to humans and there are cases of people being killed from an accidental sting. Though uncommon, the Geography Cone Snail lives on the outer coral reefs off the coast of the Northern Territory in Australia.
