Dolomite from the old times has been used as a natural stone for constructing buildings and structures. It was used to build manor houses, bridges, stock-raising buildings, roads. Dolomite layers that are harder and have a more beautiful texture are used to manufacture facade plates to finish buildings and structures. Highly soluble rocks, such as gypsum, also give rise to karst forms—there are dangerous caves in near-surface gypsum layers in the north of Lithuania.
