Portrait bust of George Read (1733-1798), body turned slightly left, head slightly right. Gray (powdered?) hair with black ribbon at nape of neck. White stock & jabot; dark gray waistcoat & coat. Deep red background at top, lighter at c.l. & c.r. Gilt wood frame with small cove, large cove, & quarter round. Inscribed on back of canvas: "TS 1860/copied from a former portrait."
