Following the rediscovery of the Theatre at the beginning of the SEcond World War, a curtained stage was created and plays were performed during 1943 and 1944. This programme for 6th to 11th August 1944, 'Holidays at Home' Week, includes performances by the Harrogate Shakespeare Festival Society and Lieutenant Daniel Thorndike leading a company from the 51st Royal Artillery Training Regiment. The programme includes an appeal for the Theatre Restoration Fund. After 1944, the stage fell silent again until the restored theatre opened in 1963.
