Scale model of a World War I German light cruiser of the EMDEN and KARLSRUHE class. Various plaques on the base read: S.M. Kleine Kreuzer / Ersatz Nerburg U. Ersatz Mainz. Erbaut 1915-17 von / Volkin-Werke / Hamburg Und Stettin Actiengesellschaft / Stettiner Niederlassung. Model represents / the / Emden, Karlsruhe Class. This model was captured in 1944 by the 43rd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, Mechanize, U.S. Third Army, when Troop B drove the Germans from the Forest of Cattenom near the Moselle River. The model was sent to FDR on October 7, 1944, by Lieutenant General George S. Patton, Jr., U.S. Army. Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library Museum Collection.
