Gilt-bronze shoes

These gilt-bronze shoes were excavated from the “Eul” coffin of tomb no. 9 in Sinchon-ri, Naju, where they were found near the feet of the deceased. Traces of fabric wrapping were identified on the shoes, suggesting that they were worn on the feet of the deceased inside the jar coffin. The soles and two side panels of each shoe were made separately, then joined together with nails. The tomb also contained a gilt-bronze crown, indicating that the occupant was likely a ruler who held the highest authority in the Yeongsangang River basin area.
