At the end of the 19th century, the “Cremonese Musicians and Violinmakers Room” was established in the city’s Civic Museum.
On 18 February 1893, the Cremonese violinist Giovanni Battista Cerani sent a letter to the municipal council offering the Museum all items from the workshop of violin maker Enrico Ceruti, the father of his wife Amalia who had died ten years earlier.
The donation totaled 359 objects including moulds for the construction of instruments, drawings and patterns of various materials.
These objects testify to the work of three generations of makers from the Ceruti family: Giovanni Battista (1756-1817), Giuseppe (1785-1860) and Enrico (1806-1883)
