Museum of Natural History of Venice

Museum of Natural History of Venice
Venice, Italy

A tome and some exsiccate herbarium sheets, illustrated tables and publications on algae of Giovanni Zanardini. Estimated Venetian physician and surgeon, passionate about natural sciences, particularly botany and algology, Zanardini devoted himself to the collection and study of Adriatic algae, especially of Venice and Dalmatia, but was also interested in species from exotic locations like the Red Sea and Southeast Asia. Many are his descriptions of new species of algae, before unknown to science. His botanical collections are still an important core of the botanical heritage of the Museum, particularly the Algarium that is consulted and studied by researchers from all around the world.
