This wool, velvet and satin coat dates to the 1890s, and belonged to either Martha or Helen Frick. The coat bears no label, but we know that the Fricks bought clothing for their children in Pittsburgh and New York, and may have ordered from catalogs as well. There are many dresses and coats in the same style and size as this example in the collection, and the Empire waist was common in clothing for little girls.
