Frederick Carl Frieseke spent much of his working life in the artists’ colony in Giverny, France, near Claude Monet’s studio and gardens. Frieseke was known for his decorative, brightly colored scenes of women in interiors or gardens. Here, he shows his daughter Frances in a flowered robe on a patterned sofa. A row of plants behind her echoes these patterns and draws a connection between women and nature.
