Girl with Jug of Ale and Pipes

Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool
Liverpool, United Kingdom

Campbell's view seems to be in the Liverpool or Everton area looking south across the city, with a church tower, probably St. Luke’s, in the background. The girl’s face appears angelic and the circular bonnet carries the suggestion of a halo. This innocence is slightly contradicted by her action - she is depicted carefully carrying beer and clay pipes from the local public house.
