Paritosh Sen was a painter, illustrator, tutor and writer. His most well-known works are his socio-political caricatures.
He used two dimensional, structured planes in style inspired by Western Cubism. Colour was an essential aspect of his paintings. He was interested in human emotions and depicted the human figure in everyday scenes. He published a book of autobiographical sketches of Dhaka city, where he grew up, called Zindabahar.
Paritosh Sen studied at the Académie André Lhote, the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, the École des Beaux-Arts, and the Ecole du Louvre in Paris. He was the recipient of the French Fellowship for Designing and Typeface and was also awarded a Rockefeller Fellowship. Sen has exhibited widely in India and abroad, such as the São Paulo Biennale (1965), Havana Biennale (1986), and others.
