Photograph showing the outside of the Kensington Hostel (c1930). The Girls' Friendly Society provided numerous facilities for the young women under its protection. Most important were its lodges which offered cheap, good-quality accommodation to 'respectable servants' between jobs and young women, such as mill and factory workers, in non-residential employment.
