Giselle, Toulouse's Capitole Ballet, 2020

Photograph of the ballet Giselle, 2019. In his version of Giselle, Kader Belarbi highlights the dualism between the earthly realm and the supernatural. He emphasizes the earthy, human style of the country dances in Act One, in contrast to the floating pointe work of the ethereal creatures of the second act. Drawing on musical sources by Adolphe Adam, Kader Belarbi took the story of Giselle and retold it in his own words, all while remaining respectful of tradition. Pictured: Act One.
