Today, The Cove is part of the Matlahuayl State Marine Reserve, renown as a shelter for numerous species including leopard sharks, blue-banded gobies, garibaldi, nudibranchs, California spiny lobsters, sea lions, kelp bass, dolphins, and migrating whales.
