In his telegram to Robert Ramsay, dated the 28.06.1880, CCP Standish informs the Chief Secretary of all that he witnessed of the siege at Glenrowan. Ned Kelly, though seriously injured, was brought to Benalla along with the corpse of Joe Byrne. Constable McIntyre positively identified Byrne as one of the outlaws present at the Stringy Bark Creek Murders. Standish also viewed the charred and indistinguishable remains of Steve Hart and Dan Kelly and informed the Chief Secretary of the nature of Superintendent Hares wound to his wrist. According to the time recorded on the telegram, it was sent at 8.20 only hours after Neds last stand.
