Tapestry woven around 1520 in Pieter van Aeslt’s workshop in Brussels. The theme represented is based on the prophet’s Ezekiel’s message: God the Father appears flanked by two angels over the symbols of the four evangelists. The scene is based on an oil painting by Giulio Romano, according to a design of Raphael Sanzio, nowadays in the Palatine Gallery in Florence, dated towards 1518. This tapestry was the canopy of a ceremonial bed or “letto de paramento”, commissioned by pope Leo X for the Parrot chamber in the Vatican (Rome).
