This single-pronged Zan hairpin is one of a set of two, sharing the same form and craftsmanship. It would have been inserted from the top to the bottom of the hair bun.The head of the pin is shaped like a melon and inlaid with a hollow-caved jade melon. A pedicle on the top of the melon connects it to a single flower. Symbolically, the flowering represents the birth of children and good fortune. There are a total of 15 small supports around the edges of the hairpin head in the shapes of melons and pedicles. The hairpin head is set with 13 precious stones.
