Circular medal featuring a woman with wings, trident, plumed helmet and laurel wreath held aloft. Stamped text along the upper margin reads, "BRITISH EMPIRE GAMES". The reverse features stamped torch and lion, laurels, map of New Zealand, and text, "NEW ZEALAND", along the lower margin. Engraved lettering reads, "HURDLES / 120 YARDS / P.J. GARDNER / AUSTRALIA". Gardner won the gold medal in a time of 14.3 seconds.
