Gold nose ornament that represents snakes and a rampant feline ML100751

This is a gold nose ornament representing snakes and rampant felines, with small hangings in the lower end of the piece. Nose ornaments are among the most important body ornaments of the Moche political and religious leaders. These clearly show the high status of those who wore them, but were also important elements that communicate the transformation of their users in powerful beings. Some nose rings are reminiscent of the feline whiskers, others show symbols associated with mythological scenes and rituals. (UH)

Esta es una nariguera de oro que representa serpientes y felinos rampantes, y pequeños colgajos en la parte inferior. Entre los ornamentos corporales de los líderes políticos y religiosos Mochica, destacan las narigueras. Con ellas no sólo se conseguía la distinción clara del estatus de quienes las usaban sino también la transformación de éstos en seres poderosos. Algunas narigueras nos recuerdan a los bigotes del felino; otras, muestran símbolos asociados a escenas mitológicas y rituales. (UH)
