Yi and Xi basin are ancient hand washing tools. Ancient aristocrats had to wash their hand before having meals as a moral. When washing hands, one person, usually a servant would pour water from the Yi to wash the hands of the aristocrat. Beneath there would be a Xi basin to catch the used water.
