Gold Thread

This thread is made by placing fibers lengthways and twisting them to an elongated length. In the past when threads were first produced, it appears that fibers were torn apart, spread out and twisted into thread by hand and fingertips. And using a rudimentary spinning wheel, the fibers were obtained and twisted into thread. Today’s spinning machine was invented out of the necessity to satisfy the growing demand for threads brought on by the development of weaving machines since the Industrial Revolution. The thread used in the present day varies to a great extent according to the fiber length and production method as well as its type, use, twisting condition, thickness, processing method, etc. The threads shown here are gold and silver threads used in embroidery. Thin gold plating is coiled around yellow and grey silk thread. Gold thread was wound and twisted around a pink thread on both sides. The silver thread was wound and twisted on Korean mulberry paper on one side.
