Gold twill damask robe with wide sleeves

China National Silk Museum

China National Silk Museum
Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

This is a female ceremonial robe from the Mongol Yuan period. Originally, there were motifs in gold on the monochrome pattern, but the gold leaf has worn away. The original pattern was a medallion with flying bird motifs. There are traces of a cloud collar on the shoulders, also with designs in gold thread. There are also hints of nasij on the collar and sleeves, four-petal flower motifs in lozenge form surrounding four-dotted floral patterns in lozenge form.
