The gilded bronze statue affectionately called ‘Golden Boy’, which stands on top of Old College’s dome, can be seen from far and wide, but this is a unique perspective also showing the backs of the shops and tenements on South Bridge. The statue itself was modelled on Anthony Hall, an athlete who later worked as an artists’ model. Its formal name is ‘A Torch Racer’ and it symbolises learning.
