Bricher was a marine and landscape painter born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He was a businessman and art amateur who turned to painting full time in 1858. He worked in Boston and Newburyport, exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum and the National Academy, and settled in New York City after the Civil War.
