This humble aquatic plant goes by the name of 'Nymphoides peltata' or, as it is commonly known, yellow floating-heart. Native of Europe and Asia, in Portugal it is endangered – there is record of a single population, in the river Minho. This is one of the species included in the 'ex situ' conservation strategy of the Botanical Garden of the University of Porto, where it is grown in one of the tanks in the Schist Garden. If one day the wild population ceases to exist, we hope that the specimens that are cultivated herein can be reintroduced in nature.
