Good Stones and Bad Stones

Wolfgang Lettl's first surreal attempts date back to right after World War II.

They are small watercolours, oils were not yet available to him then.

This is how he describes his first surrealistic experiments:

"I tried to simply paint something and soon realized that I couldn't paint just anything, but only something specific. Most of the time the results of these experiments were not beautiful, but they were always something that had not existed before, and of which I had had no idea, either."
