This very rare basket is made from a carved gourd and inscribed on the bottom with the signature of Ogata Korin (1658– 1716), a painter and lacquerer who founded the Rimpa school. Here, he applied the chrysanthemums with white gesso in relief. This basket is decorated with opaque green paint, and its inside is lined with gold.
