SUPPORT silk ikat (mat mii) from northeastern Thailand trimmed with dyed ostrich- and chicken- feather trim.
In March 1981, during the first of two promotional visits to Japan, Her Majesty wore this gown to a dinner hosted by the Japan-Thailand Trade Association. Later that same year, Her Majesty wore this dress to a benefit dinner for SUPPORT in Dallas, Texas. In the complex ikat (mat mii) process the threads are tie-dyed to create the design before the fabric is woven.
