On a clear day France can be viewed across the English Channel from this window. A piece of graffiti by A. A. Chase below the window is particularly poignant. Dated November 1914, Chase would have been able to see across to the country they, or people they knew, would be fighting in following the outbreak of the First World War in July that year.
