With over 5000 titles available on shellac records, the Deutsche Grammophon music label was the European market leader in around 1900. Above all, the electric recording method developed in 1925 provided better sound quality and ensured the popularity of records would continue to grow. In the 1930s, large companies such as Telefunken-Gesellschaft, Electrola-Gesellschaft, Deutsche Grammophon-Gesellschaft, Odeon, and Columbia supplied music to the German record market.
