Grand Army of the Republic Memorial

Dr. Benjamin F. Stephenson of the 14th Illinois Infantry is depicted in the centerpiece of this obelisk memorial because he was the founder of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), a fraternal organization for retired Union soldiers.
