Considered the most richly decorated piano of the eighteenth century, this instrument was built for Manuel de Godoy, prime minister to King Carlos IV of Spain. The decoration, conceived by the well-known English furniture designer Thomas Sheraton, includes jasperware cameos by Josiah Wedgwood and enamel coin casts by James Tassie. The instrument also has the distinction of being the earliest surviving piano with a range of six full octaves.
