Grande Ghibellina II

Brother of Arnaldo Pomodoro, whose Sphere adorns the square in front of the Ministry, Giò was a sophisticated sculptor in his own right, capable of renewing the language of sculpture from within and endowing it with more sharply defined complexity of structural relations in a period markedly influenced by Art Informel. Grande Ghibellina II is the second casting of the work in the Rockefeller Collection. With its interplay of solids and voids, this mural wave of bronze generates energy as it unfurls and dances in space.
