This piece reflects the artist's fascination with Florida wildlife. The Great Blue Heron is a wading bird which is common near large bodies of water and wetlands in the state. Over the years, Irizarry, a hydrologist, came across the species during many field visits to the south Florida wetlands and became fascinated by its majestic beauty.
