Great Grape is an artwork by grape lab using our signature product, g.stand, as a way to experiment with the ‘bunch of grapes’ theory from a design point of view. Great Grape is the name grape lab’s founder chose for her thesis, the ‘bunch of grapes’ theory while pursuing her master’s degree in Sustainable Design at Kingston’s University. The ‘bunch of grapes’ theory is an attempt to change the current society’s economic structure — the pyramid’s small top, and the increasingly large base. The theory pursues alternatives to gradually reduce the income gap and create a variety of small sustainable economic clusters, like grapes usually grow. ‘g.stand’ is a stand made by folding a single sheet of 100% recycled paper, using minimum amounts of resources and technology — with no bonding or coatings. It enabled grape lab’s collaboration with young artists with intellectual disabilities to create a sustainable platform to solve environmental and social problems from a design point of view.
