The first incarnation of what would later be called the Isle of Wight Festival took place at Ford Farm, Godshill on August 31 and September 1, 1968. The festival was headlined by Jefferson Airplane, and Tyrannosaurus Rex, whose debut album My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair…But Now They’re Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows had just been released in July, performed. The festival drew about 15,000 attendees.
