American-born Brooks opened Unicorn Boutique on Gerard Street in 1963. Her Carnaby-street style shop offered a bouillabaisse of fashions and housewares for young buyers. After closing Unicorn in 1970, Brooks incorporated a self-named ready-to-wear fashion company that she operated until retiring in 2003.
