The deep green that permeates this illustration evokes the nature-rich environment of Nagano Prefecture, Chihiro’s spiritual hometown. In the background, a tree and animals can be seen in white. Do these elements that lack color exist only in the girl’s memory? The hat that the girl is wearing in the illustration happens to be identical to one that Chihiro was fond of wearing in her adulthood.
