Green Shell-Edge Plate

This green edge-decorated plate was found in the 1797 cellar and was likely used by a slave taking a meal. It was common for slaves to bring such dishes from their homes for use in cellars or other work spaces to consume meals during break periods. Archaeologists have found similar plates in the South Yard and at the Stable Quarter. These plates were manufactured in England and purchased at markets by slaves in the local region, showcasing their participation in the market economy.
