Greenough Spoon top view

George Greenough is an eccentric American born surfer/designer who introduced important performance elements to the "shortboard revolution" in the late 1960s. Riding short low volume kneeboards with raked high aspect ratio fins (inspired by the fins of Tuna he caught) Greenough demonstrated an ability to ride closer to the waves centre of power, and be able to change direction more quickly while maintaining control. Recording footage with self made equipment he took surf film audiences into the tube for the first time, inspiring a generation of surfers to seek "the green room". His boards, like this spoon kneeboard, often featured unique design elements and planing surfacesin complex combinations. This board features very early use of carbon fibre (in the fin) to add stiffness while still maintaining some flex.
