In the late 1940 the greeting card and gift industry giant, Hallmark Cards, produced a series of "doll cards" specifically marketed towards collectors. Highly detailed and complete with a printed story of the character represented, the cards each included a colored feather inserted at the top of the doll's head, and a few plastic sequins at key locations on the printed clothing or accessories. Not to be outdone, competitor American Greetings quickly published its Forget-me-not Doll series of greeting cards, complete with a feather at the top. The American Greetings products included a tear-off tag marked with a specific occasion--a birthday or get-well wish--to add, perhaps, to their marketability.
