This spectacular Burmantofts pottery stand shaped as a griffin with serpent tail would originally have supported a large bowl on its head. Burmantofts Faience art pottery was made by Wilcock & Co. from about 1880. The company merged with four other firms to form the Leeds Fireclay Company in 1889 and stopped making art pottery in 1904.
